Space Aliens, Kwik Mart, listless teens who have nothing better to do than play video games, resurrection, secrets, and dead people. What more is there to want in a comic book? This awesome comic by Nicc Balce is one of the more entertaining comic books to read, and well worth checking out. The story line is all about three kids who really are today’s losers, who end up doing something extraordinary because of life and space aliens intruding on their otherwise listless lives. The story revolves around Migo, the Kwik Mart clerk, Mica, who dates Migo. Mona, who is an unlovable, controlling friend to Migo and Mica who essentially plays the creepy guy with camera in the series. Then there is the enigmatic “Goggles Girl” who is the obvious tragic heroine in the story who has amnesia after landing on the roof of the Kwik Mart.
Then comes the aliens who want to protect the “tree of life” kind of nonsense. In one of the culminating scenes in book one we find out that Migo has the ability to transform to damage or kill the monsters that protect the “tree”, and why the aliens are all over the planet looking for these monsters. Simply humans are not prepared to deal with transforming ability aliens, so the other aliens must with the help of our teenagers work out a way to “save the earth”. In all not a bad premise and in this series it works well because of the way the images are cut together. There is an interesting balance between the way the panels are cut and the way that the story line is put together. It is not your average comic and feels more like a fast cut MTV style music video (back in the day when MTV played music videos). While we get a short story line of four comics in this, the ending is open, meaning there is more room for more stuff, and a deeper story line should the author wish to produce it.
Overall this is an interesting comic book series that is worth purchasing. So far it has not been made digital at either Comixology or Graphicly, so the only way to get this is through print, and that will mean online at EBay or Amazon. It is well worth getting, and rating this 4 of 5 stars, because it is missing something, but is still overall worth getting. There is something missing from the story line that is hard to define, but feels like the author lost the drive to do something awesome with it in the later story lines. This has been noted in other reviews as well, but still worth getting it if you can find it. Viper usually does awesome comics, and this one is no exception.
